Villa Tanama
Residential retreat overlooking the historical Tanama Valley grapevines and olive groves.

This project explores an equilibrium between the practical next to the articulately romantic, a will to belong together against the intentions to express the individual, of historical precedent and invention, an engaging of the pragmatic with the transcendent,
and the interplay of rural and agricultural landscape.

A weekend villa for entertaining large groups and a respite from the hectic city life. The residential retreat overlooks the historical vineyards and olive orchards of the Valley of Tanamá with views to the ancient hills of the Tecate Indians. The layout of the structure relates to the spacing of the vineyards and the olive groves.
The villa follows the topography of the site as an organizational element. The villa is experienced vertically through its organization of public and private quarters. A series of courtyards and terraces for various functions occur at different levels. The main house is set in the ground while the studio is set above the vineyards on pilots.
